Glyphset: Latin Extended-A

Gatch seeks to bring playfulness and generous forms to the often predictable genre of geometric sans-serifs, particularly inspired by typefaces such as Joseph Churchward's “Crossbred”. To achieve this, classics such as “Futura” and “Neuzeit Grotesk” were utilised to combine their functional principles within a unique contemporary response. Tension between full-round and narrow glyph proportions are a prominent design choice that brings a pleasant energy to the typeface.

Gatch’s uni-width system allows for seamless weight transitions without disrupting the flow of text. This characteristic is particularly valuable for sensitive displays or when creating positive/negative representations in UI design, or when space is limited in printed media.
