This section offers an insight into David Einwaller’s portfolio, which bridges the gap between typography, graphic design & art direction. IMAGINE AI FOR DIGNITY
Context

The exhibition design explores language as a connecting force between culture and technology. With a deliberate visual reduction, it emphasizes the textual layer and highlights the theoretical grounding of the show. Two contrasting typefaces — a Renaissance-inspired Antiqua and a utilitarian Sans-serif — symbolize the tension between humanistic ideals and technological pragmatism. The design reveals structural aspects of writing systems and creates a space where human and machine perspectives converge.

MID-CENTURY MODERN
Context

This book is dedicated to displaced designers and their designs, which were often created in exile. It offers a comprehensive overview of their often little-known works and sheds light on the creative power that Austria lost during the wars. It has been designed in particularly close collaboration with the author and includes unpublished archive finds as well as years of research on the subject

LIEBLING IM VOLKSTHEATER
Context

The visual identity for Liebling im Volkstheater draws on themes of disguise, illusion, and theatricality. Inspired by the venue’s unique setting within a theater, the design plays with irony and subversion—repurposing everyday objects and testing the limits of convention across printed and spatial media. Menus, signage, and printed matter were approached as performative elements: a wine list that reads like a miniature dictionary, unfolding in five acts; materials that shift between the familiar and the absurd. The result is a layered identity that embraces ambiguity and invites guests to look twice.

SPACE ANATOMY
Context

The book brings together national perspectives, expert roundtable discussions, and detailed case studies—from innovative health centers and care facilities to community-driven projects. It examines how these spaces influence everyday life and the well-being of individuals and communities. Designed to reflect the clarity and complexity of its subject, the publication balances analytical depth with visual storytelling. Essays, project documentation, and thematic infographics are brought together in a carefully structured layout that supports both reading and reflection.

GALERIE ELISABETH & KLAUS THOMAN
Context

After 20 years of the gallery’s visual identity, I was commissioned to revise the layouts and the typographic treatment of the many applications. At the core of the new identity is a typeface that emerged from a research phase of restrained, modernist typefaces that mostly had their roots in the 1950s and still strongly define our image of “neutral” typefaces today.

A NON-READER FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO LOOK AT LETTERS
Context

The book was published on the occasion of the release of «Morion» as an accompanying experimental type specimen. Similar to the principle of transformation, the paperback attempts to deceive the reader at the first moment. The history of type specimen books shows that texts can be stripped of their meaning in order to foreground the purely formal aspect of a typeface. The «Non-Reader» uses this paradox to mislead its readers—it takes up numerous paragraph and text formats of the paperback and contemporary book design and does not shy away from taking them ad absurdum, even to the point of breaking the type area several times.

GALERIE ELISABETH & KLAUS THOMAN
Context

The online shop of the gallery offers a curated selection of artworks and publications — the design follows an analytical, data-informed approach, aiming to present the gallery’s diverse inventory in a clear, neutral, and accessible way. Rather than imposing a dominant visual identity, the interface allows the content to speak for itself—highlighting the richness of the material while maintaining a balanced and intuitive user experience. The result is a structured, unobtrusive platform that supports both focused searches and open-ended exploration.

This multidisciplinary event and exhibition explored how food—and especially spices—can bring people together across cultures. Designed as a shared experience, Spinning Plates invited guests to taste, learn, and connect through curated dishes, immersive visuals, and collective storytelling. Alongside a guided culinary journey, the event featured a panel discussion on migration and how it continues to shape restaurants and culinary traditions. The evening culminated in a nightline with DJs and live music, creating a space where sensory pleasure met cultural dialogue.
